THE FALLEN WITHIN is an Athens, Greece located band, created in 2003. The group belongs to the general style of metal influenced mainly by the American metalcore and Scandinavian melodic scene, having also experimental, progressive and many other elements. Recently their debut album of 10 tracks which is called "Intoxicated" is out and its not far away to be called a masterpiece for its genre.
Here follow an interview with guitarist Gio who is the one that formed the band.

1- Congratulations your new album shreds me...How do you feel about it?

Thank you very very much for your good terms to our work! Well I can’t describe my feelings in words but I have to say that I am so happy and our big efforts finally brought to us some great resuts!

2- Can you desribe to someone has never heard of you, your music?

Well, The Fallen Within is a band whose basic purpose is to create modern metal music with many elements. About Intoxicated album you could say that it’s a massive melodic death metal work having also many metalcore subjects and some atmospheric and experimental ones. The group belongs to the general style of metal influenced mainly by the American metalcore and Scandinavian melodic scene.

3- Whats your main influences like a band?

Oh there are soo many bands that we admire like In Flames, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, Nevermore, Lamb Of God, Soilwork, Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive, August Burns Red, Meshuggah, All That Remains, Unearth and many more...

4- Whats your expectations through this debut release?

Through this debut album the main expectation is to get The Fallen Within known as good band from Greece to as many people as possible. That’s the main point for a new band and also the base from where you can build a career in future. Of course we want to have a successful release and present the album in several shows here and abroad.  

5- Has the environment you have lived in an effect to your music?

Of course the environment where each one of us live affects the way we are working, living, feeling or everything. It’s something totally physical. We are living in a big overcrowded city this reflects differently than a person who live for example closer to nature. In the environment we live you can see stress, violence, noise pollution, alienation and things that make you strange and maybe not happy. Our music is a part of this situation and we would compose differently of course if we were living in a calmer area.

6- How are you going to support "Intoxicated"?

I think that the better way to support an album is to have as much live shows as to possible to several cities. We are having a release live party on Saturday December 26th in Athens and we want to do the same in Thessaloniki. Then we will manage a greek tour and also knock the door of some festivals here and abroad. Our main goal is to have a tour in Europe but that demands a good deal with a booking agency or some other ‘tricks’. Of course we will cooperate with the label and our manager to do the best for the worldwide promotion. Finally I have to mention about our first official video clip for the song Sound Of Destruction directed by Bob Katsionis in order to work in a professional way in the section of the band promotion.

7- In general how is the reaction of the fans to your music? Especially the reaction of the greek fans?

Even if its too early to talk about reactions, I have to say that people everyday leave us so kind compliments about our work and this is what it makes us happy. We compose music from our deepest side of ourselves and when we see that this becomes one with people feelings then we feel really happy. We are Greeks so it’s easy to understand that many comments arrive from Greek fans daily and we want to thank each one!

8- What about the lyrics of the new album? How important are the lyrics for The Fallen Within?

Lyrics of course are one of the greatest parts of each band’s identity. As far as concerns Intoxicated they have to do with human being, various feelings, the way of our mind sometimes is thinking and the situations we often have to face like self destruction etc. So someone could say that the album is a concept one and I couldn’t deny this at all.


9- Tell us your opinion about the whole metal Greek scene...

Well first of all I have to say that here in Greece we have really amazing musicians and great bands but I am not sure that each one of them knows how to work professionally in order to success and help our scene to become better day after day. I feel so sad when I see bands that talk wrong about others. If we want to do something serious here first of all we have to be united like a punch and work harder having big standards. Of course this demands offerings and of course the scene wants the support of local media.

10- Let us know some of your all time greek favourite bands?

Well there are so many…For Rotting Christ, Firewind and Septic Flesh I think you can’t say anything because their long lasting work shows us everything. Some of my favourite local bands are also Tardive Dyskinesia,Hybrid, Suicidal Angels, Bare Infinity, Randomwalk, OutLoud, Total Riot, Poem, With All Of My Regrets, Infravision, Elysion, Descending and many more.

11- Whats your philosophy like a band?

Well The Fallen Within is a band which first of all wants to have band mates who respect each other, who are good friends first of all, have targets, ambitions and feel thirsty for music and creation. You will never here from us to consider that we are something special because we believe that if you think that you reached the top, then you will begin to be erased. Everyday we have to try for the best.

12- Do you participate in any other projects?

Well the fact is that I spend too much time for The Fallen Within and I am focused on my band, so I could not have the chance to participate in other bands or projects. The same about the other guys too. If I participated in other project I couldn’t give my 100% to T.F.W. and I don’t want to steal time from my band especially this period.

13- How important is the band for your lifes?

Mmm well, I have to say that my band is my lover! Loooool. It’s one the greatest part of me after my family and my health. It’s my baby that I dream to watch it growing day after day or something like that.

14- What the future will bring for The Fallen Within?

Only God knows! I wish to be healthily first of all and then to continue to work hard and even it’s too early I want every next cd to be many levels higher that the previous ones. We always hope for the best!
